Cross Panel Mathematics Day 1:

March 3, 2017

Seven secondary teachers, eleven elementary teachers, and two principals came together at the CEC to consider mathematics instruction from an intermediate lense. Thinking from The 5 Practices framed much of the day.

Learning Goals:

  1. Consider the role of student and teacher efficacy and its impact on classroom culture
  2. Increase understanding of effective mathematics discourse by examining the 5 Practices
  3. Learning to deepen our understanding of : analysis of student work; planning instruction that is responsive to students’ strengths and needs; and cross-curricular mathematics strategies (mathematical strategies that support deep understanding and engagement of learners from grades 7-10)
  4. Develop our understanding of the continua that exist between gr 7-10 mathematics

Cross Panel Mathematics Day 2:

A continuation of the first day, the same group gathered once again at the CEC to moderate student work, explore problems of practice, and consider the continuum of learning in mathematics from Grades 6-10.

Learning Goals - We are:

  • increasing understanding of effective mathematics pedagogy so that we can plan instruction that is responsive to students’ strengths and needs.
  • learning to assess and analyze student mathematical thinking so that we can work as a community to increase our educator capacity and work to facilitate successful student transitions from elementary to secondary.
